Hello sunshine, that’s right summer has hit and so too has
neon. This year’s love affair with big, bold, block colour continues so flash up
and show off your fav shades.
Neon and I never really made it pass that raver fancy dress
phase, I was far too unavailable and would not commit to matching accessories.
Well, now mamas got a brand new bag and I’m considering teaming up my typically
dark palette with a hint of neon.
Understand that such will not be sourced from the
River Island sale rails that are spewing with tasselled, sequinned, (every kind
of) print tees that are hideous even at 75% off. To get neon right, wear it as
a statement block piece: loud shorts, a headband, tailored jacket, umbrella
skirt or really get involved and embrace the dip-dye look and colour your locks
electric blue?
Don’t go overboard bright young things; one or two pieces,
keep it subtle. Know your shades too, for example if you’ve got a fair
complexion then perhaps avoid too much green and yellow?
Whilst we’re on ‘don’t’ then it’s worth saying DO NOT
assume that this look is only for the high top wearing, quirky, oozing with
cool East London cliques. Sure they make most ensembles work, florescent lippy,
nails and shades are standard.
If you look closely street style is donning a
whole lot of neon, guys and girls all over town are mixing in it. It’s not just
weekend wears or festival attire either, fast forward to Monday morning and
give that white shirt and suede pump something to whistle and woo with: Neon
skinnies? Fuchsia pleated skirt? Retro print (Hermes if your blessed with)
scarf in the neck or around the wrist? Satchel?
In light of the trend and the eminent Olympic
Games I purchased something new and neon with a winning outfit in mind. A white,
flecked with fuchsia, tank top with
‘London’ logo, and at a steal of £4.99. Yes H&M I'll take you up on that.
Back at my gaff I whip this on with my black leather pencil skirt, tucked in
but with a baggy overhang . Hair pinned up, full fringe, tights and black boots
(if tut, tut I should suspect rain) or bare legs and pumps. Love this.
